The Putorana Plateau is one of the oldest, northernmost plateaus of volcanic origin.
This is a real “lost world” for lovers of untouched nature. Here you can see the virgin taiga, Tundra forest and the arctic desert.
The plateau is often called the “land of ten thousand lakes and thousands of waterfalls.” The lakes here are of various sizes and depths with the largest collection of waterfalls in Russia.
The lakes here are unusual – their shores look more like Scandinavian skerries or Norwegian fjords, being deep and long, they often form entire systems, stretching for many kilometers. Most of the Plateau is occupied by the Putorana Reserve, included by UNESCO in the list of World Heritage sites.

The fauna is unique and is characterized by the wealth of endemic species. Only here, you can see the world’s largest Putoransky bighorn sheep and a rare falcon – a gyrfalcon. The migration route of the world’s largest Taimyr population of wild reindeer runs across the plateau.
The Putorano Plateau was first studied and scientifically described in the second half of the 19th century. Back then, the researchers traveled to these remote places together with the Evenks. Now you have a unique opportunity to see the virgin beauty of the plateau from a bird’s eye view.

Program by day

Day 1. Putorana Reserve and waterfalls

11.00 Arrival at “Alykel” Airport, Norilsk city 11.10 - 12.00 Transfer to Norilsk 12.00 - 12.40 Lunch at the restaurant 13.00 - 13.30 Transfer to the airport "Valek" From here begins the route by which you will find yourself in the heart of the Putorana Reserve. These are amazingly beautiful places where the tops of the mountains are so flat, as if they have been cut off by invisible giants. From a bird's eye view, you will be able to see the famous “weeping rocks” - a phenomenon in which melting snow is abundant, as well as streams, turning into larger streams of water, as if falling (or ‘’weeping’) from the rocks directly into lakes. 13.30 - 14.30 Flight to Big Irkindinsky waterfall * In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the transfer is carried out on the American boat Weldcraft Sabre 630. It also delivers fuel and food stores to the camp. Travel time is 2 hours. On this boat all further water rides can be carried out. We then travel to see the lake Keta, the second largest on the Putoran plateau. In the western part of it, you will see rocky long islands - skerries, as if scattered on the mirror smooth surface of the water. Then you fly over cascades of waterfalls, rock walls and rapids on the river Tokinda. Next you will see the lake Kutamamakan. From the north-east to south-west, it stretches for about 60 kilometers, but its width never exceeds two kilometers. Therefore, the lake is called a fjord. Mountains with flat tops, steep and inaccessible slopes break off to its shores. There are a lot of fish and pure water, the mineralization of the Putorana lakes is even lower than in Baikal. Then you will find yourself above Chaya-Kit mountain, the habitat of the Putoransky bighorn sheep and if lucky, you will see that impressive animal. Our helicopter lands at the Bolshoi Irkindinsky waterfall. Just imagine the powerful flowing streams plunging from a height of a nine-story house. Several dozens meters wide, the waterfall makes a lasting impression. After resting and making a series of photos, we go further - to the confluence of the Yaktali and Dulismar rivers. This place is also called Strelka (“Arrow” in Russian). Here, two streams turn into waterfalls, so that after a few dozens of kilometers, with cold clear waters, flow into the Kureika River. Landing on the site Waterfall complex Yaktali-Dulismar. Lunch on the cliff overlooking the picturesque waterfalls. Another unusually beautiful place on our way, is the Oran waterfall. After landing, you will have the opportunity to view the waterfall and take some photos Hitting the rocks in a free fall, the water here turns to dust. When you stand at the bottom near the waterfall, a powerful jet of compressed air mixed with mist strikes the face. It is impossible to describe, you have to feel it. Next you will see the Kandinsky waterfall, the Oran canyon, the Khibarba river canyon and numerous waterfalls on its tributaries (depth 400-500 m). Kandinsky Falls – is the highest waterfall in Russia with a continuous jet fall of 108 meters. From this place, a unique view opens up to the canyon of the Khibarba river, here it reaches a depth of 400 m. You can see waterfalls on the left tributaries of the Khibarba (86 and 40 m). In this place the Putorana snow ram is often found. The canyon of the Khibarba river is a unique place even for Putoran. The height of its walls ranges from 400 to 500 meters. At this time, numerous waterfalls stream along the walls of the canyon - meltwater streams rush to the river, decorating black rocks with white threads. Flight to Lama Lake. Lake Lama is one of the most beautiful lakes in Putorana (82 km long and more than 300 meters deep). It cuts into the main plateau massif, forming in its eastern part, a colossal canyon of 1500 meters wide and more than 1000 meters high. From all sides, rivers and streams flow into the lake, each of which flow into the lake in a cascade of magnificent waterfalls, from 5 to 60 meters high. Accommodation at the lodge. Relaxation. 20.00 - Dinner at the lodge. The menu is usual for the regions of the Far North: northern fish, partridge, smelt fish, venison and other dishes.

Day 2. Canyons and Lake Lama

9.00 . Breakfast at the lodge. Next, by helicopter we go to the Moya-Achin River, which runs along the bottom of the canyon to view the river Moya-Achin and its 9 waterfalls. After the waterfalls, you can see the beautiful river, surround by steep walls and emerald clear water, through which you can see a hole in the bottom. On the way we fly over the watershed of the lakes "Dog" and "Nakomäken" (Mount Akyrma), Landing on the site of the Lower Falls at Moya Achine, there is time to take photos. Next, we fly over the river Dynkend (mountain range "Dynkend Mountains") and landing at the site of the Tsarevna (“Princess” in Russia) Falls. We then fly over the eastern part of Lake Lama. The helicopter goes along the canyons of the Choronen, Heusi, and Gikhikal Rivers, along the walls of which numerous streams and waterfalls flow, forming “weeping rocks”. If we are lucky, then we might see the Putoransky bighorn sheep, native to Putoran, listed in the Red Book. Lunch in the lodge. Evening walk around the lodge. Here you will hear the legend about the creation of the Lake Lama and the river Kygam, which peoples living on this land have passed from generation to generation. Upon returning to the lodge, it’s possible to take a dip in a plunge pool. 20.00 – Dinner.

Day 3. Ethnic groups of Putorana and Shaitan mountain

8.00 Breakfast at the lodge. The excursion route continues by boat. On this day, we will go on a trip to the picturesque eastern part of Lake Lama. Our goal is to see the ethnocultural museum of northern peoples (about 50 km one way). Along the way, you will see the sheer cliffs and cascades of waterfalls amazing in their natural relief. The end of June - the beginning of July is the time of mass melting of snow, that is, the best opportunity to experience the full-flowing rivers and waterfalls. On our way we will meet the strongest place of power - Shaitan Mountain. You can see with your own eyes this favorite place of the shamans. Since ancient times, various shamanic rituals have been performed at the foot of the mountain. And, in clear weather on the mountainside, you can see the “face of Shaitan”, a huge semi-profile of a human face. When we arrive at the ethnocultural museum, you will learn the way of life for local ethnic groups. You will find out who the Nganasans are, see the items of their life and hear their legends. On the way back, we stop for lunch at the mouth of the mountain river Omon-Yuryakh in the picturesque bay. Food is cooked on a fire. Here you also have a great opportunity to watch the underwater world and dive in wetsuits. Return to the lodge. Relaxation. It is possible to organize fishing for the grayling on the Kapchuk river 20.00 Dinner at the lodge. Russia sauna “banya” (optional), possible plunge pool after.

Day 4. Views from the Kamenny Peninsula

8.00 Breakfast at the lodge. We set off on a boat to the Kamenny peninsula. On the polar night of 1939, at a temperature of minus 55 degrees Celsius, the Baltic soldiers were sent here to build a building. During the construction, not a single tree was cut down. The wood, despite the frost, was carried in horse-drawn carts from afar. The builders died long ago, but the building has survived to this day. Its scale makes a lasting impression. In memory of those who died, a cross was built here in 2015, blessed by the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Cyril. Those who wish can rise, symbolically have a hand and pay tribute to the dead. Then you will find yourself among two mountains, which bear Russian names Paul and Helen, and find out why they were named that way. Walk to the gorge. Here is a powerful waterfall, falling into the "bowl" framed by rocks, as well as a river with the funny name Vitaminnaya (“rich in vitamin” in Russian). We have the option of lunch on the river side (meat or fish dishes cooked on the fire) or at the lodge (as per guests’ preferences). Further, we will pass by a picturesque walking route to the river Karchuk. Here you can see grayling in the natural environment. Underwater photography can be arranged, as well as swim and dive in wetsuits. Return to the lodge. Dinner. Russia sauna “banya” (optional), possible plunge pool after.

Day 5. Trekking route "Festival Mountain"

8.00 Breakfast at the lodge We go ahead to the neck of the Kamenny Peninsula, leaving on a trekking route to the Festival Mountain. The route is designed for the whole day. Under the guidance of a professional we trek to a height of about 900 meters. On the way, you’ll see amazing views of the nearby rivers and lakes. An incredible panorama of the Putorano Plateau, Lake Lama and Kapchuk will open from the top. Many large and small rivers that feed the plateau flow into the picturesque lakes. Many of them are typically mountainous: stormy, full-flowing, with an abundance of rapids and waterfalls. Explaining the beauty of the shores of Lake Lama, Evenks note that from a height it looks like a girl who beckons the men strong in spirit. You will appreciate the veracity of this statement after seeing the lake from a 900-meter height. Lunch - picnic. 19.00 Return to the lodge. Dinner. Russia sauna “banya” (optional), possible plunge pool after.

Day 6. Neralakh Falls and the Kuranakh River

Breakfast at the lodge Walk from the manor and then we travel to the mouth of the river Neralakh (16 km) then to the waterfalls Neralakh. Before flowing into the lake, the river Neralakh forms a picturesque canyon, into which, falls down a waterfall. To feel the height, we first make a hike and look at the waterfall from above. Further on the boat we go around the gorge and go below to feel the power and pressure of the water. Lunch in the lower part of the canyon. We move to the mouth of the river Kuranakh. Here you can see the native species of Putorana and, as it is also called, the “king” of Lake Lama, the Arctic loach (“golets) of Dryagin. Here you will have the opportunity not only to fish, but also to taste freshly caught fish. Lunch of fish dishes. In addition, in the river Kuranah you can also dive in a wetsuit.
